Draw The Ponytails For Your Cartoon Girl

How to Draw a Black Girl / Woman with Afro Easy Step by Step Drawing Tutorial for Beginners

Step 7 of this guide on how to draw a cartoon girl will be another simple one! For this step, we will be drawing some ponytails for your cartoon girl.

These will have small circles at the base of the ponytails connecting to the face right under her ears. Its easy as that, and now were ready to move on!

Add Some Shadows & Finish The Girl Drawing

To make the drawing look a little less flat you can add some very basic shading by darkening some areas of the drawing. You can either do this by going over parts of the colored areas with a regular pencil or by using a darker shade of whatever color you chose.

Generally the way shadows appear on anything is based on the lighting. To keep things simple the face of this girl will be shaded as though she is either outside on a sunny day or indoors in a well lit room.

Add the shading in the following places:

  • Small shadows around the eyelid areas
  • Shadow in the inner parts of of the ears
  • Tiny shadow below the nose
  • Shadow on the entire upper lip
  • Large shadow on the neck shaped similar to the chin
  • Big shadow on the hair in the area between the sideburns hair and the neck

Drawing A Female Nose

A line drawing of a female nose can be a little tricky as the more you define its shape the less feminine the nose may appear.

Based on the earlier proportions sketch draw some lines to indicate the nostrils and sides of the nose. Afterwards draw a hint of the tip and the bridge.

Drawing The Female Head

How to Draw a black Girl Step by Step

To help you make sure that both sides of the head will be of equal width and that the facial features in later steps will be evenly spaced start your drawing by first making a vertical line through the middle of your drawing area. Next draw a circle for the top part of the head and from that project two lines that first go to the jaw area and then curve inwards and go down again at a sharper angle to finally form the curve of the chin.

As this is a female face for the sake of this tutorial we will make the chin fairly small and narrow.

How To Draw A Female Face In 8 Steps

Another highly requested tutorial fresh out of the oven! This;one is, again based off my;original;method, but with a few small changes here and there to create a female face with soft features. Ill explain the differences in each step as we go along.

Note: Remember to use an HB pencil with light pressure for all steps so you can easily erase your guidelines in the end. I used a lot of pressure in the examples so you can clearly see what Im doing.

I know there are a lot of measurements in this tutorial, but I think its very important, especially if youre a beginner. Once you understand proportions you can try this tutorial again without the ruler method.

To add detail to hair draw in some lines flowing from the parting line down along the shape of the hair. Add in some other lines that still follow the general direction of the hair in various places along the overall shape of the hair. Try and vary these in their length and distance from one another.

As shown in the example you can make the shape of each blob of paint somewhat random but try and keep their overall size relatively close just so that the drawing looks nicer.

Draw The Hair In The Front

For drawn the hair it will be split into the front, sides, and back sections. You can see more on this approach in the following tutorials:

Begin the drawing the hair in the front of the head. In this case it will be shown in red. For this particular character the hair will be drawn in large clumps that somewhat resemble for tails.

Draw the clumps right over top of the outline of the ears and head. You can then erase the bottom parts of the ears but leave the outline of the head to help you place the rest of the hair.

Step By Step Drawing Instructions

Lets start drawing guidelines. Draw them lightly as they will be erased later on. Draw the parallel lines, all on a slant. They all need to be the same distance apart.

Draw a vertical line in the center, that is also on a slight slant.

Lightly lable the brow, nose, and chin line to reference later. Break the part between the brow and the nose into 3 equal parts.

Label the eye line. Draw 2 notches. Draw the notch on the left side further away from the center line than the notch on the right. The right side of the face is going to be a bit smaller since the face is turned slightly away from the viewer.

Make 3 more notches on the right side, the same distance apart as the distance between the center line and the first notch. Make 3 more notches on the left side, the same distance apart as the distance between the center line and the first notch.

Use the guidelines and notches to help you place the eyes. Start off the eyes by drawing a curved line for each eye.

Draw curved lines for her lower eyes, her upper eyelids, and the lines below her eyes.

Add some more details to her eyes.

Draw a sideways ? shape on the left eye, and a curved line on the right one. Draw a partial circle for each of the pupils. Erase the part of the circle that is outside of the eye.

Lightly draw guidelines down from the right side of the left pupil. Draw a line for the inner eye on the right eye.

Thicken up each eyelash. Start shading the inner eyes and whites of the eyes.

Shade her forehead.

Draw The Top Of The Head

Before drawing any parts of the head or face it can be helpful to draw a straight vertical line through the middle of your page/drawing area. This line can act as a guide to help you see if both sides of the head/face are even in width. It can also help you center the drawing on page.

Towards the upper end of the line draw a circle that will represent the top of the head. Be careful not to draw it too high up though as you will need to leave some room for the hair.

Draw The Back/top Of The Hair

How to Draw black Girl Step by Step ,How to Draw African Girl Face , How to Draw a black women face

Draw the back/top section also split down the middle. The hair should first stick slightly farther up from the head towards its very top, then get a little closer towards it near the upper end of the sides of the head. Finally it should again curve away from the head towards the middle/bottom of the head.

After you finish drawing the hair you can erase the parts of the head/and ears that are covered by it.

In case you are wondering why you needed to fully draw out the head and ears and not just start with the hair there are several reasons for this. One is that seeing the exact size of the head makes it easier to place the facial features . Another is that drawing in such a way helps to avoid many potential mistakes.
